Veteran Steve Baskis Receives Custom Tandem Bicycle

In 2008, at just 22 years old, US Army veteran Steve Baskis was permanently blinded when his convoy was hit with a bomb on the northern edge of Baghdad. Since his injury, Steve has gone through months of rehabilitation and has shown he has more courage and willpower than ever expected. This all-around athlete has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, competed in an Ironman competition, and skied at Yellowstone. Last weekend, Friends of Swett & Crawford presented Steve with a custom tandem bicycle so he can continue his love for sports and the adrenaline rush he feels when he’s out being active.

The support Swett & Crawford received during Swett Warrior Weekend was incredible. One of our partners, Men’s Warehouse, came forward and was able to give back in a way none of us will ever forget. When they first heard about the weekend and the black tie Gala, they immediately offered complimentary tuxedos to some of the veterans. In addition, they offered a significant discount to all of our Gala attendees including veterans, men & women currently serving our country, and even Swett & Crawford employees. They were also able to bring the tuxedos directly to the hotel for easy delivery and fittings for the guests. Thank you again to Men’s Warehouse for their hospitality and generosity.

The care and rehabilitation he has been receiving from this hospital’s Center for the Intrepid has allowed Herman to run for the first time in nearly two years. This state of the art facility is designed to treat burn victims and amputees, specifically those who served in the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan.
